Reduce Contaminants and Get Great-Tasting, Healthy Drinking Water Today!

EcoWater SoCal has been treating water in Southern California for 17 years, helping people get the high-quality water they deserve.

Most people don’t realize that the majority of contamination happens AFTER water leaves the water treatment plant and travel miles to your home.

Did you know the safe drinking water act of 1974, which dictates the quality of water that you are legally allowed to get out of your tap, regulates less than 100 water contaminants? That’s kind of a long time ago.

Unfortunately, the EPA estimates there are around 60,000 chemicals in the US right now. Just think for a minute about all of the medicines and prescriptions we take, pass through our system, and then end up back in our drinking water unregulated.

Not a fun thought.

Our goal is to help educate locals about water in the US and Southern California.

To reduce contaminants that may be in your water up to 99% we have high-quality Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filter systems available along with our dedicated service and maintenance.

We also offer a one-of-a-kind whole-house sediment filter, carbon filter, and water softener all in one to improve the water at every tap in your home.

If you have any questions about the best option for you, your family, or your business, use the form on this page and we’ll get in touch with you right away.

After all, that’s why we’re here. To help you get the best quality water within your budget.

Common CA Water Problems & Contaminants

Low pH

Does your water have a metallic taste or do you notice bluish-green stains inside your toilet tank or on your fixtures?

If your water has a low pH (less than 7) it is may be considered acidic. Common causes for acidic water are acid rainfall due to atmospheric carbon dioxide and other airborne pollutants, runoff from mining spoils, and decomposition of plant materials.

Acidity in water can have an adverse effect on the taste and quality of your water, as well as household pipes and fixtures. Acidic water can cause fixtures to have blue staining (from copper pipes) or rust staining (from iron pipes). The main problem is the damage it can do to copper or iron plumbing. The water slowly eats away at the plumbing and water heater tank, eventually leaving holes.

If you suspect that you may have a low pH issue, or would like to have your water tested for acidity or contaminants, contact an EcoWater Pro. Our water treatment specialists understand the problem water challenges and commonly occurring contaminants affecting their region.

Lead

Lead differs from other contaminants in that it rarely occurs naturally in the raw water supply. Lead is more likely to become a problem after the water has left the treatment plant. Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful to human health; there is NO safe level for lead exposure.

The primary source for lead in most drinking water supplies is as a result of corrosion in the household plumbing – lead pipes, lead solder, brass faucets. Homes built before the 1930’s utilized lead pipes. Older homes may also have lead service lines connecting the home’s plumbing to the public water distribution system. Even if your home was built after the 1930’s and has copper pipes, the solder may contain elevated levels of lead. While replacing lead service lines and old fixtures may be desirable, it may not always be feasible.

Some simple methods, such as flushing the faucets before using the water and never using water from the hot-water tap for drinking or cooking, can significantly reduce exposure to lead. If high lead levels still exist, however, a water treatment system may be needed. Potential options include specialty filters, reverse osmosis systems and distillers. Contact your local EcoWater Pro to address your concerns.

Microbiologicals

Does your water smell musty or woody?

Different types of organic matter (algae, mold, and bacteria) can make your water taste earthy or fishy. The micro-organisms which find their way into a water supply can come from a variety of sources including sewage, animal wastes, or dead and decaying animals. Public water systems are required by state and federal governments to provide biologically safe water, however private wells are not regulated. Additionally, even though bacteria is treated and removed from municipal water supplies, the moldy taste the algae imparts to the water may be detected at extremely microscopic levels by some people.

Bacteria in water cannot be seen, tasted, or smelled and many health-related symptoms are not immediate. Therefore, the only way to reliably determine if water is contaminated is by a laboratory test. An EcoWater Pro can assist with both businesses and homeowners if this is of concern.

Cloudy Water

Does your water look foggy or do you notice sand or dirt in your water?

If you draw your water from a well, lake, stream or pond there is a high possibility that you have experienced cloudiness in your water at one time or another. It is caused by sand, dirt or other inorganic matter getting into wells, or by run-off of matter into the water supply. This cloudiness, or turbidity, is simply dirt or other suspended solids in your water, which gives it a cloudy, milky, foggy appearance.

While many people consider water turbidity a visual or aesthetic concern, if left untreated, it can lead to more troubling plumbing issues down the road. Turbidity can clog pipes and the small water-bearing openings in your faucets – creating wear on valves, seats and washers, which can lead to costly repairs. Turbidity can also cause staining in sinks, fixtures and laundry.

There are several types of systems and filters that can be used for treating sediment and turbidity problems in the home. An EcoWater Pro can evaluate your water supply and identify the best solution for your needs.

Nitrates

Nitrate is a naturally occurring form of nitrogen, essential for plant growth and often added to soil (fertilizer) to improve productivity. Like some contaminants, it is both tasteless and odorless. When nitrates are not completely absorbed by the soil or the crops, excess can often find itself in groundwater and surface water supplies, which are in turn used in residential drinking water systems.

If you suspect that you may have a low pH issue, or would like to have your water tested for acidity or contaminants, contact an EcoWater Pro. Our water treatment specialists understand the problem water challenges and commonly occurring contaminants affecting their region.

What does the safe drinking water act say?

(table)The safe drinking water act (SDWA) says that the quality of all drinking water must be protected and authorizes the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish minimum standards requiring all owners and/or operators of public water systems to comply with these standards. Under the Act, the EPA also establishes minimum standards for state programs to protect underground sources of drinking water.

What is the best water to drink?

The best water to drink is the one that you will drink the most of and the most often. However, if you’re looking for a clear breakdown of the benefits to each kind, here is a quick list:
    • Hydrogen Water: Technically the most healthy water to drink, hydrogen water contains hydrogen molecules that act as powerful antioxidants. The claim is these molecules are capable of helping your body neutralize harmful free radicals, reduce inflammation, & slow down aging.
    • Alkaline Water: Classified as water with a pH level of 8 or above, Alkaline Water has become more popular because research shows that an alkaline diet is generally good for health as the body thrives when it is able to maintain a slightly alkaline pH. While low on minerals & nutrients, alkaline water has been shown to relieve symptoms of upset stomach, increase the body’s overall absorption of minerals by 30%, and reduce blood pressure by 15% (see study).
    • Distilled Water: Distilled water has the highest level of purity and is almost sterile. Sometimes called demineralized or deionized water, distilled water is water that has had everything removed (including ions and minerals). So while it’s the purest form of water that you can get, it literally has nothing in it (good or bad). There are no harmful side effects to drinking distilled water but it is not recommended as the sole source of drinking water as it lacks basic minerals & nutrients that are beneficial in water.
    • Bottled Water: Bottled water is a convenient way to access clean safe drinking water however, some large water brands have admitted that their bottled water is nothing more than filtered tap water and it comes with a large environmental cost due to its single serve plastic container. Bottled water also has a shelf life (yes, really) as the plastic leaches into the water overtime, effectively contaminating it.
    • Boiled Water: While boiling your water is one of the cheapest ways to purify your water, boiling only kills pathogens and is not capable of removing other contaminants such as like lead, pesticides, nitrates and other chemicals. Boiling water also lends a very flat taste to the water which most people do not prefer.
    • Tap Water:

Is tap water safe to drink?

While tap water is “safe” to drink EWG (Environmental Working Group) did a 5-year study looking at the quality of US tap water and the results showed that tap water supplied to all 50 states contained over 500 different contaminants. While we tend that think that the water that arrives in our homes is “filtered” the truth is that municipal water treatment facilities only treat for specific regulated contaminants (not all) & even worse, the lead pipes the water travels through to your home introduce more contaminants to your water on its journey.
